The design aesthetics of the well-preserved Poachampally Ikat is highly appealing to the contemporary world. The fluidity in design and the process of crafting an Ikat is nothing short of poetry in motion.

This saree is hand woven in the city of Poachampally, Telangana, The wavy geometric patterns, the lustrous text, and the comfort of the silk fabric make this saree an attention-grabbing one. The play of colors and the generous use of zari enhances its splendor.

Ikat is known to have its roots in Indonesia. In the native language Ikat, it means to bind or knot. It involves a technique of resisting dyeing. It can be traced back to 11th century and today the term Ikat is commonly used for the technique, yarn, and fabric. The dyeing process of an Ikat is different from the other resist-dyeing techniques. Instead of the woven cloth, it is the yarns that are dyed first.

The tightly wrapped yarns have rough markings of the patterns. They are then dyed multiple times based on the design in hand. Once the yarns are dried, the weaver prepares the loom for weaving the fabric. It is a complex process that involves precision and complex calculations. The weaver has to place the dyed threads accurately to achieve the desired design.
